We had such a great time in Oklahoma. It’s a beautiful place to visit.
It’s very rural, and very quiet. It was nice to wake up to this view of the front yard every morning. BEE-YOO-TI-FUL!
My Dad and Step-Mom have a huge fenced in back yard. Liesl and Gubler loved it!
Oh, and then there’s the cat… He wasn’t happy to return home and see those two galoots staring at him through the window. It was a standoff. The cat wasn’t budging.
And once Gubler discovered that my Dad was keeping the cat out in the garage, he refused to budge from the door.
There were many small towns to visit, lots of little museums, and even more antique shops.
The Oklahoma Territorial Museum…
There are tons of beautiful old buildings, with antique shops scattered here and there. I was in my glory.
The scene in the movie Twister, where they’ve “got cows,” and sister water spouts, was filmed in my dad’s town. Other scenes were filmed in the surrounding areas, like Guthrie.
There’s even a prairie dog town by my dad’s house. OMG! They are so cute. Left to my own devices, I could have sat there and watched them for hours.
Did I mention the casinos? Squeal! Even in the gas station! This one was called Lil’ Bit, because it’s a lil’ bit of a casino. I walked away from here a few dollars richer, and a lil’ bit happier, lol.
Downtown Ponca City…
They’re supposedly making a movie starring Jennifer Lawrence about E. W. Marland, called “The Ends of the Earth.” The guy married his adopted daughter, so I guess it’s salacious enough for Hollywood.
This was my favorite antique shop. I actually purchased two pictures here. The Cherokee Strip Company…
Another gorgeous sunrise…
Gubler still hasn’t forgotten about the cat.
My Dad and Step-Mom have four of the sweetest little fur babies ever… ( Top to Bottom) Beemer, Julie, Maizy and Maggie.
It was a nice visit. (Except that my son was sick for the first half, and then got everybody else sick. Sigh… That’s all I’m gonna say about that.)
I wasn’t leaving without a trip to the actual casino.
In hindsight, I should have stayed away. We lost about 200 bucks. Wah wah wah… I had fun losing it, so I’ll just file that under an entertainment expense. Can you see the greed in my eyes?
The only thing prettier than the sunrises, were the sunsets.
We had so much fun, and I’ll miss my Dad and Step-Mom lots. The best part of the whole trip, was just being at my Dad’s house. As old as I am, I felt safe and cozy there. I fell asleep on the couch one night, and my husband woke me up to go to bed. I just wanted to stay there on my Dad’s couch, in my Dad’s living room, enjoying that sense of home. I miss that. Sigh…
Anyway… We’ll be back as soon as we can!
