A Home Decor Tour For Fall

Hi Friends! I’m excited that Autumn is finally here again, not that there’s much of a difference living in Florida. Sighhhh… I’m back with a home decor tour for Fall. Well, maybe not a tour, more like a peek.

My old Fall wreath was looking a little tired, so I replaced it with this cute scarecrow. I wanted a new wreath, but everything I liked was way more money than I wanted to spend, and I just don’t have the time to make one. Maybe next year.

I decorated the front entry a little more than I usually do. I don’t have a lot of space, but next year, I’d like to do even more.

The hedgehog is actually a cookie jar, but the lid isn’t designed very well; it’s almost impossible to grasp.

Since I decluttered, I don’t want to keep anything that isn’t useful, and it’s just sooo cute, so I decided to use it as a planter.

Oh, on a side note… Since it’s Fall, which means back to school, I thought I’d mention that my son is a Senior in High School this year.

Honestly, I’m looking around seeing other Moms having a good ‘ol time, basking in the glory of senior year, and I’m getting jealous. My experience, so far, has been anything but joyful. It’s been stressful as all get-out and I can’t wait until it’s over. And people told me it would be expensive but… Dang!

Now I know why GOD only blessed me with ONE child. I’m just not cut out for this kind of stuff.

Thanks for listening to me rant.

Anyway… Back to the tour.

This is the first year ever that I decorated for “Fall” and not Halloween.

I’ll be in Oklahoma for the holiday, so I didn’t see a point.

And yes, I did buy a few new decorations. To compensate, I had to recycle other things and I’m working on purging even more.

I no longer have a tolerance for clutter. It just makes me angry.

However, what you consider clutter and what I consider clutter might be totally different.

Again, I’m no minimalist. As you can see… LOL.

I still like the book display on my end table, but I’d like to change things up. I just need to find something else that works.

It needs height and texture.

The little diamond punched pumpkin is new from Pottery Barn, but the blankets, pillows, glass pumpkin on the other end table and squirrel dish are from Pier 1.

I got the mercury glass owls, and frosted pumpkin at Home Goods, and the garland came from Pier 1.

I did buy two new Halloween decorations, this Mexican Jack o’Lantern being one of them. He’s from Home Goods.

I just couldn’t resist.

The velvet pumpkins and acorns are from the ETSY seller frenchtag.

I’ve been wanting to make my own for years, and that’s why I bought them; I may never get around to it.

My husband bought me roses for our anniversary, 23 years. Wow!

I still need some practice with flower-arranging. It’s not my strong suit.

I wanted to take a minute to talk about my amber orange wall color. In my head, I’ve gone back and forth so many times… Should I keep it, or paint? Keep it or paint?

I know it’s outdated. OK, very outdated. But I like it. There, I admitted it! I like my orange walls. I still like the red walls in my office too. And the dark brown in my bedroom. Not so much the purple in my son’s bathroom, but…

I always feel a little embarrassed posting pictures of my house, especially now that white on white is all the rage.

Others consider my macaroni and cheese colored walls “outdated, tacky and well, gross!” LOL

It definitely doesn’t photograph well, but honestly, it has a really nice feeling in person.

My living/dining room has no natural light except what gets filtered thru the kitchen, and the color makes it feel warm and cozy.

I guess I’m having a hard time because I want to paint up the stairway (you can see it to the top right in the picture below) along with the upstairs hall.

It either needs to be the same color as the living/dining room, or I want to paint it black to match the chalkboard wall. Yes, you heard correctly, black. But I think I’ve eliminated that option.

So… Do I paint the stairway to match the orange, or do I repaint everything in an entirely new color?

I think I’ll just say “to heck with what other people think,” and go with the orange amber. It’s just so much easier at this point. Decided.

Phew… Now that I’ve decided, I still don’t feel any better, LOL. I just can’t wait to get out of here.

And here’s the second Halloween decoration I purchased; a Boney Bunch votive holder from Yankee Candle.

My husband was horrified, but I think it’s a hoot.

We live in Florida, so what’s scarier than seeing an alligator crawl out of your toilet?

I had to have it.

(Notice my “still red” walls in the computer room, haha…)

Besides some pumpkin mugs and dish towels in the kitchen, that’s about it for my Fall decor.

Now I’m looking forward to Christmas. Only 75 more days!!!

Aaaawwe… no Halloween decorations this year! I’ve been following your blog via RSS feed for… I can’t even remember how long! Years! And no, I’ve never commented or anything. 🙂 I’ve always been quite content to just look at your posts.
So, why am I commenting today? Honestly? I don’t even really know.
Procrastination, I guess (laundry needs to be done, bed needs to be made, a shower needs to be taken… and so on!).
Unhappiness, might also be a part of it. Work has been rather exhausting lately, I’ve been on sick leave this week and will have to go back to work tomorrow.
Feeling a bit lonely, oh well, yeah, might also be part of it.

Anyway, I’ll miss your Halloween decoration post, but then, there won’t be a Halloween for me this year either. After some kind of small domestic dispute, my Halloween decorations ended up being taken down – and w/o decorations I’m boycotting Halloween altogether. No Halloween candies, no Hocus Pocus, no trick or treaters, not even a single pumpkin! I’ve been running around like the Grinch of Halloween for the past week, it’s only now that I at least begin to look at other people’s Halloween posts and deco w/o snorting and pulling my hair.

Oh, right, almost forgot: about the wall colors! By any chance, are you on Instagram? If so, look for British interior trends (#darkinteriors or #styleitdark should return nice results)! They’re really into colors! Well, dark colors, but I couldn’t be happier about that trend, b/c I’ve always loved dark colors! So, your colors aren’t outdated at all, at least not in my opinion.

Well I’m glad you decided to say hello today! And Hugs… I know the feeling, all too well. I hope you’re feeling better, it always stinks going back to work after being off for a time.

I’m really bummed about not being around for Halloween, next to Christmas, it’s my favorite Holiday. I’ll just have to make up for it next year 🙂 I’m sorry to hear it isn’t going as planned for you either. Sending more hugs!!! I’m an all or nothing type of personality too. Sometimes it comes back to bite me in the butt. Sigh… You’ll just have to make up for it next year too!

Yes, I actually know about the #styleitdark tag. I think I’ve used it a time or two. Except their rooms are #bohemianchic while mine are #grannyhadstyle hahahahaha… But, thank you!!! 😀

I hope your week gets better from here, and I hope you let yourself enjoy the holiday just a little. You deserve it!

      Karen
