The Holidays were very different for us this year. We made the trip back to Oklahoma to spend Christmas and New Year’s with my Dad. It was the 4th time this year, and it’ll be my last road trip for a while. I just can’t… It’s too much with three dogs, driving at least 24 hours straight through. Next time, I’m flying.
It was a very laid back trip, we didn’t do much of anything. Our Slug Factor couldn’t have been any higher. Oh, and Brendan got sick, again. It seems that the both of us are always getting sick when we’re here. I just don’t get it. And this time he was really, really sick. As a matter of fact, I don’t think he’s been that sick since he was very little. It shouldn’t surprise me because I got really sick after Thanksgiving. He stayed in bed pretty much the whole time, except for the few times we went out. He only came with us because it was Christmas, and we weren’t home.
We drove up to Kansas to see the Isle of Lights in Winfield, and have dinner.
I love the Bison and Tornado!
I guess you can’t have a light display in Kansas without including The Wizard of Oz. Fun!
Christmas Eve was spent at home, re-watching A Christmas Story, over and over and over… The marathon was on! And Brendan started to feel really bad, so Marcos took him to Urgent Care.
My Dad is preoccupied with taking care of my stepmom (She has advanced Lewey Body Dementia), and has a hard enough time doing everything else that needs to be done; He just doesn’t have the capacity to put up a tree. We went to the Hobby Lobby when we got there and purchased this little guy. I wish we could have gotten a bigger one, but it wouldn’t have been practical to decorate and take down before we left. I really think this one looked cute, and it served its purpose.
It wasn’t possible to put all the presents under the tree, so I scattered them around the living room.
I did the best I could to make everything look and feel festive.
It was definitely cozy.
I baked Chocolate Chips and Cinnamon Crescents, and mixed them in with the rest of our favorites. Did you taste the new Cinnamon Bun Oreos? OMG, they’re so good!
I got those fun photo props to take pictures with, but I forgot to use them. I’m telling you, we were total slugs. I bought lots of things to cook and bake but that didn’t pan out, and we only did a fraction of the other things I wanted to do. The trip itself takes a lot out of you, and under the circumstances…
Unfortunately for me, it didn’t snow. I was hoping for a white Christmas, but it certainly felt more seasonal than it would have in Florida.
I brought a few things from home to set a nice table. I planned this table setting for Christmas Eve, and I wanted to use actual Christmas Linens for Christmas Day, but that never happened. Wah, wah, waaah.
At least we had a pretty table for Christmas Eve. Simple and easy to clean up, but festive and pretty.
We learned our lesson at Thanksgiving, and got take-in from the Olive Garden. We’d rather spend time relaxing and being together than stressing over dinner. I think I ordered way too much though. Oh, well.
We had fun tracking Santa’s whereabouts. Who said you need little kids to have a good time?
‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all thro’ the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a
Aren’t they precious?
Christmas Day got off to a late start. Brendan was in bed sick, and my stepmom doesn’t wake up until late morning. That was fine by me as I got a chance to relax and sleep too.
When everyone was up and about, we opened presents.
Brendan made out like a bandit as usual. I think he got everything on his list and then some.
Everybody was happy.
Considering how sick he was, he pulled himself together for a little while. I’m sure he was excited to open his gifts.
Santa Paws made sure all the puppies had presents too. They got toys and treats, and had fun playing with the ribbons and wrapping paper.
I’m glad we were able to spend the day with family.
Brendan’s birthday is in between Christmas and New Year’s, but he was too sick to celebrate on his actual birthday. I dragged him out of bed on New Year’s Eve to have cake.
I made him wear the beanie to cover up his bed-head, LOL.
Someday, I’m gonna get dressed up and party on New Year’s Eve. Either I’ve had to work, or we’ve just stayed home. I’m not complaining, I’m just saying. Sigh…
I had a good time introducing my Dad to Snapchat… I nearly died!
And that was our excitement. It was fun.
Happy New Year to you all! I hope the new year brings you health, happiness and prosperity.
I attempted to “VLOG” over Thanksgiving and Christmas, but I did a crappy job. It seems that I only took pictures of all the good stuff, and forgot about the video. Oh, well… I decided to put together a 20 minute video of all the video I DID take. Consider this a test, or trial… The editing was done on my phone using the SPLICE app, so it is what it is. The audio is crummy, but there’s not a lot I can do about it. There’s tons of footage of the puppies playing! At least I’m good at filming them. LOL. I guess if I want to vlog, I’ll have to practice.
