Hamilton Has Brought Out the Theater Geek In Me Again

In 1978, when I was 7 years old, I saw my first Broadway Musical, Annie. It changed my life.

Actually, Sandy the Dog, lived 6 houses down from me, growing up.

From that point on… I was hooked. I was bitten by the Broadway Bug! I’m lucky to have an Aunt, who also loves the theater, and who took me often as a kid. I was fortunate to get to see great performances by Yul Brenner in The King and I, Sandy Duncan in Peter Pan, Christine Andreas in Oklahoma, Betty Buckley in Triumph of Love, and the list goes on and on and on. Below are just a few of the specific Casts I got to see.*

I was involved in lots of productions in high school, community theater and college. I was always shy, so behind the scenes was my thing. After I got married and my son was born, things kinda teetered out for a while. I didn’t have the funds to shell out big bucks for Broadway anymore, and community theater became a thing of the past. Oh, I’ve not been completey deprived… I’ve seen a few newer shows like Wicked, Shrek, etc… But there’s a big gap there, and lots of shows I’ve missed. It’s bothered me, but I’ve had other priorities.

And then came Hamilton. Wow! Hamilton has brought out the theater geek in me again. It’s fun, contemporary, and more than a little genius. I’m SO excited to see it. And that excitement has spilled over, leading me wanting to see other shows. I’m trying to work things out for Christmastime in the City, but who knows if I’ll be able to pull it off.

To satisfy my “Hamiltonitis”, I’ve been driving the guys crazy listening to the soundtrack over and over and over and over, lol. I just received the book, Hamilton the Revolution.

The book is absolutely beautiful, and I can’t wait to dive in and start reading it. Hopefully, it’ll tide me over until I get to see the real thing.

And while I was ordering that, I also got a gorgeous leatherbound copy of Les Miserables. I’ve seen ‘Les Mis’ on Broadway twice, and I’m sad to hear that this is the last summer for this run. I’m sure it’ll be back in about 10 years or so.

It looks like I have a lot of reading to do. I’d better get to it. So tell me… Are you a big Broadway fan? Did you get your tickets for Hamilton yet? Have you seen it?
