The De-Cluttering Continues

It has been a long year since we got the storage unit, and I started de-cluttering. I’m finally starting to enjoy the results. I don’t know how I lived all those years without it.  It is absolutely full to the brim. (You can’t even imagine how much stuff I threw away.) Where did I put it all?

The De-Cluttering Continues

I know de-cluttering is a never ending process, but most of the decision making, and organizing is finished. I still have to purchase a few products to help better organize my cabinets and drawers, but I’ll do that little by little. I see a trip to The Container Store in my future.

I did have one last, angry purge. On Thanksgiving, I went to get out my dishes and linens to set the table, and I could barely access anything. I had to pull a bunch of stuff out, just to get to what I needed. After all the purging, and storing away that I had already done, I was still in the same boat. I was super pissed and on the verge of tears. I’m such a big baby, right?  I had reached the last and final straw. ( I thought it was reached a long time ago.) I thought I had gotten rid of everything I could, but I was wrong. Again.

I went on a final tear, and got rid of everything that I was hanging on to. You know, stuff that’s nice to have, but you really have no right to own in a tiny townhouse, with almost no storage space.

Now, I am addicted. I have become addicted to cleaning and de-cluttering. Maybe it’s addicted and angry. Or maybe I’m just angry? Every time I pull out a garbage bag, my husband gets nervous. He probably thinks I will eventually throw him out too! Nah… I’ll find a spot for him.

Today, I’m organizing my kitchen cabinets… Again. At present, I am going through my cookbooks and recipes. They were in such disarray that I haven’t even looked at them, or attempted to pull them out, in at least two years. What good is having them?

The De-Cluttering Continues

I’m going to take my time and sort everything out, while I enjoy a nice cup of coffee, and watch a few Christmas shows. I have to cut it down to half and make it all easier to access.

The De-Cluttering Continues

What a disaster. I need a recipe binder.

The De-Cluttering Continues

OK… I’m finished for now. I cut the cookbooks in half, and I may get rid of a few more. There were four, very heavy, bags of trash.  I still have to get a binder for all the loose recipes, but those were cut down more than half.

The De-Cluttering Continues

The good news is, I can see what I have. And… If I want to get out a cookbook, I can take it down without a thousand pieces of paper flying everywhere. The shelf space has also opened up. There are a few cookbooks that I decided to keep, that I’m not sure about. If I don’t use them in the next six months, I’ll trash them. With Pinterest, and all the cooking blogs out there, cookbooks are almost obsolete.

The De-Cluttering Continues

I’m going to stop here with kitchen cabinet organizing for a while. I need to get more of those wire shelves, and a few other things, first.

I was going to stop for the day, when I noticed the basket on the stairs was full of crap that needed to be sorted, and put away.

The De-Cluttering Continues

And what was in the basket? T-shirts, dog toys, lost socks, picture frames, nails, the computer camera, a crucifix, cleaning stuff, pictures, my husband’s varsity letter from high school, etc… Lol. I don’t even know what to say about this eclectic bunch of stuff. Except… This is what every drawer, cabinet and closet looked like, before I started to organize and de-clutter.

The De-Cluttering Continues

The best find was a Star Filter for my camera. I didn’t even know I had it. Woot!

The De-Cluttering Continues

That too is now finished and everything has been put away. Properly. What’s left is an extension cord and two flash lights.

The De-Cluttering Continues

For the next week, I’ll be relaxing and enjoying the holiday, in my newly organized home. I hope you all have a great week!
