Our Christmas Tree 2014

My Christmas Tree is up! Phew… Glad that’s done. I’m only putting up one big tree this year, and it’s killing me. I’m really trying to be good about not overdoing things. I’ll miss the colored lights and the ornaments on my other tree, but until I have a bigger home, having two trees was just too much.

Our main tree is a “Christmas” themed tree, with white lights. It doesn’t change much from year to year. This year I omitted the Grapevine because my husband didn’t like it, and it made a huge mess.

I’ve been collecting Christmas Ornaments since I was 16. I have glass and porcelain, cloth and wood, high-end and home crafted… I never met an ornament I didn’t like. At least it seems that way. They are all very precious to me. Most of my ornaments are very sentimental and remind me of special people, and special moments in time.

I could never replace my ornaments from year to year like some folks do, when they want to change the theme or color scheme. If I want a new theme for my Christmas tree, I just go out and buy an additional tree. That’s probably not the wisest thing to do, in retrospect, lol.

Most of my glass ornaments are made by the Italian artisans of Soffieria De Carlini, but I also have many from Radko, Christborn and Old World. I probably purchased three quarters of my ornament collection at Lord & Taylor. It’s a good thing we don’t have that particular department store in Florida.

And for those of you who scoff that it’s, “Too early to decorate for Christmas…” I say, “Bah Humbug!” For me, Thanksgiving is now part of the Christmas Holiday. By the time Santa Claus finishes out the MACY’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, I’m ready! I’ll be enjoying myself, while all of you are in the midst of a gigantic, hurried, stressful mess. Ho Ho No Thank you!

I don’t have all my decorating finished yet, I’m waiting until this weekend to put out the fresh greenery. I don’t want it to be brown and disgusting by the time Christmas gets here. And in deference to those who do want to celebrate the Thanksgiving Holiday in the traditional manner, I’ll wait to decorate the outside of my house until the following weekend.

So that’s our tree for this year… It will probably be our tree for next year too. I don’t have a little tree this year, I think I’m going to abolish it for the immediate future. I do however, still have my fairy tale tree in the bedroom. That’s a keeper.

Your tree is absolutely gorgeous. I LOVE your taste. Each ornament is so pretty and the whole effect is fabulous. Like you, I have been collecting ornaments since my late teens. Unfortunately I have lost many due to tree falls (too many ornaments weighing them down!) but I still have lots of beauties – and I still collect.
I’d love to see your entire Fairytale Tree. Is it very small? Thank you for the idea b/c I’m now going to add a little tree in my bedroom. I actually already have a very small artificial tree that I can use. BEAUTIFUL photos! Thank you 🙂 Liz

Hi Liz! Thanks for visiting. I’ve had a few tree falls myself, which is why I now use artificial. I plan on getting a real one again, if I ever get a bigger house and have a permanent place for a Christmas Tree anchor. I actually use some of my broken ornaments on the back of the tree so it doesn’t look empty.

My Fairytale Tree is on the bigger side of tabletops. It’s a work in progress, but I do plan on posting photos of it, along with the rest of my holiday decorations. I usually have a little tree in my living room too, but I need a break and so does my wallet.

Have fun with your new tree and let me know how it turns out!

Like you, I’ve been collecting tree ornaments since before I had my own house. You have some lovely ornaments and I love the tartan ribbon you’ve weaved in and out of the tree.
For the first time I am putting a small tree in the guest bedroom. It’s going to be white and blue to go with the décor. I thought a sparkly look a la Frozen. xx

Hi Andi! I’m thrilled you like the tree. It took a whole day to decorate it, so your kind words, makes it all worth it.

I think a Frozen themed tree would be awesome! I love that movie. I actually purchased some Olaf and Sven plush just to have sit around for the holidays. I haven’t purchased any Frozen Ornaments, but I’m on the lookout!

I’d love to see it when it’s finished!
