Decorating for Summer

Do you “decorate for Summer?” Except for my little Christmas tree that changes with the seasons, I never have. It’s kind of a new concept to me. When I was growing up, people had Easter decorations, Halloween decorations, Thanksgiving decorations and Christmas decorations. No one decorated for Spring, Summer, Winter or Fall. No one. Fall decorations were decorations that you could use for both Halloween and Thanksgiving.

Some people changed the linens on their bedding, and once in a while the window treatments according to the temperature outside, but that was the extent of it. Things have sure changed.

This morning, I made my husband take me to the Sponge Docks in Tarpon Springs so that I could pick up some stuff for my “Summer decorating.” He wanted to go watch a fight tonight, so he quickly agreed. Ha! What luck!

Tarpon Springs is (or was) the Sponge Capital of the World.

It’s a fun place to go for some summer accessories.

Shells, Sponges, Coral… It’s even a good place to pick up some home-made soap.

And while you’re there, you can grab an ice cream or some Greek pastries! Yum!

You just need to be careful as all the little goodies add up. I dropped everything off at the register with my husband, and was going back for just one more thing. When I heard the man tell my husband the total, I stopped dead in my tracks and returned the item in my hand, back to the shelf. I thought my husband was going to murder me.

Lucky for me, he just gave me ‘the look.’ Sigh… He didn’t kill me! Phew. And that means I’ll be back next weekend, because I should have gotten one more finger sponge and one more sea fan. Summer decorating is fun! And I think my husband is having a good time watching that fight!
