A Bedroom Makeover for my Son

For the 2017 update, click here. (I’m updating the update. I’ll reshare soon!)

It was time for my son’s bedroom to get a makeover. It’s only going to be temporary, so there wasn’t a huge budget. I eventually want to get him some really nice furniture, but not until he’s old enough to take care of it. I think it came out great. And he loves it.

The new “furniture,” curtains, and lamps are all from Ikea.

I broke the poster frame over the bed while dusting it. I seem to break something every single time I clean. Maybe that’s why I don’t do it as much as I should? Hmmm? I just stuck the frame back on the wall for now, but it will be replaced… Eventually.

We kept some of his old treasures to decorate the new room with, and brought others out of storage. Hopefully, it looks a little less cluttered. Hopefully.

The apothecary jar is full of old Lesney Matchbox cars that my Grandfather gave him. There’s also a few of mine from when I was little.

We’ve displayed his Disney pins and memorabilia on a bulletin board.

He’s got lots of action figures, Legos, and autographs.

The Legos are a royal pain to dust. Most of the time they just get the feather duster and/or blow treatment. What is the blow treatment? I simply blow the dust off of them, lol. They always fall apart when I dust them properly, so that only happens once in a while.

I’ve used lots of books and picture frames in the shelves for three reasons… To hide the wall and the wires since there is no backing, to add height and fill in each cubby, and for added texture. Whatever works…

Before going to Ikea, we searched all over for a TV stand that would be the right size and height, and also be able to store all of his video game equipment. We couldn’t find anything… Cheap or Expensive. We lucked out.

All of his autographs were obtained in person except for the Upper Deck on the left. I purchased that for my husband, way back in the day. Dear Son is very proud of them, and likes to show them off to his friends.

Considering all we did was paint and spackle, I think the room came out pretty nice. He doesn’t have the room for a computer, and the furniture isn’t of the highest quality, but his friends are always impressed when they come over.

“Cool room, dude!”

I take that as a compliment. It doesn’t get much better than peer approval.

And just in case you’re wondering… His room does stay this clean all the time, with the exception of the bed not being made once in a while. His closet, on the other hand, is a whole other story.

  7. What a great make-over, his room looks so stylish and grown-up now. The wall colour is very striking. I also suffer with lego everywhere – it's the bane of my life!
