We Adopted a Rescue Dog. Introducing Gubler!

Yesterday, our family grew by one. We adopted a rescue dog. We named him Gubler.

All of us, including Liesl, went to pick him up from his foster home.

Gubler

There were so many other dogs waiting for a permanent home. It broke my heart.

We knew he was a sweetie from the start. In the car, he crawled up on my lap and went to sleep.

Before going home, we dropped Gubler off at the groomers to be pampered, while we picked up some supplies.

He was such a good boy!

Liesl has been very jealous. It’s been exhausting chasing them around. I know Liesl is more bark than bite, but still. I can’t wait until this cooling off/bonding period is over. She won’t leave him alone and follows him everywhere, barking and growling. She also tries nipping at him once in a while. Of course, Liesl has been getting lots of extra attention, and always gets everything first. Food first, treats first, affection first, etc..

There’s been many times when I’ve thought “What have we done?” Fortunately, Gubler is extremely well behaved. He’s only had two accidents, and I’m wondering if he was just marking his territory. He never barks. As a matter of fact, I was beginning to think that he didn’t know how to bark. He finally barked when the doorbell rang, but that’s the only time. He knows the word “no” and actually listens. Wow! He’s such a snuggle bunny. His paper work says he is one years old, and his foster Mom said he might be closer to two, but I’m not so sure I believe it. How could this little dog, be so perfectly behaved, having been in and out of shelters and rescue homes, and be so young? Well, it doesn’t matter. I just think we lucked out with him.

I’m so glad we rescued this precious little angel. I wish we could save them all.

What a precious baby. I have rescued numerous dogs and am so glad there are other people that feel the same.I think God smiles when we take care of one of his helpless creatures.
