Yertle the Turtle

Well, I guess the only turtle that was hungry this afternoon was Yertle. I know it’s Yertle because he/she has a patch of algae on the top of his/her shell. These guys become very tame and very bold. They would eat out of your hand if you let them and sometimes, if you aren’t feeding them quick enough, they’ll come out of the water and try to take the food from you 🙂 It’s cute… And it’s very hard to remember that they are wild… But it can be scary and it’s best to keep your distance. When I see one getting impatient, I back up. I certainly don’t want to know if one would bite me.

My son would love to come and feed these turtles. It would take everything I have in me to keep him from trying to catch them all day. We have a large pond in the fields behind our home that we take the kids frog hunting and then we release them in our mud puddle in the driveway. My son has to do his frog count every morning before school. Interesting post above this one, you are right.
